Today’s new construction easily incorporates many green building practices.  Double-paned LowE windows, sprayed foam insulation and foam filled cores for concrete block are a few examples of easy options that do not affect the appearance of your home.  Window placement and solar tube lighting, along with compact florescent and LED lighting can dramatically reduce energy consumption for household lighting.   Solar and tankless water heaters both efficiently provide hot water.  All these options are becoming much more conventional,  affordable and a doable upgrade for those who are ready to bring their energy bills down and receive a tax rebate.  True green building encompasses many more ideas such as constructing with highly recycled material content, using efficient building practices that minimize material consumption, and the use of a compatible building design.
